1979 was an ecclectic year for rock music in England. Though the glow of the initial punk explosion was beginning to fade, the energy and exuberance of the genre was still very marketable. UK record labels were scrambling to sign acts from this "new wave", as well as push the offerings of their current crop of safety-pined minstrels.
